1936 (Summer) - TED JOINS THE MINOR LEAGUES

While still enrolled in high school, Williams made his professional baseball debut in the minor leagues with the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League. He finished the year with an imposing .271 batting average (without a home run) in only 42 games. In '36, Eddie Collins, Red Sox General Manager, makes a rare scouting trip to San Diego to see Bobby Doerr and George Myatt, but is most impressed with Ted's swing. The Red Sox pick up the option on Williams.
